John Joseph Gazdick Jr., 93, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest Sunday, September 2, 2018 in the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehab Center, Lehighton. He was the husband of the late Emily (Yuskauskas) Gazdick who passed away October 3, 2015. Born in Nesquehoning, he was a son of the late John J. Sr. and Pauline (Stianche) Gazdick. He was employed as a carpenter for Duggan and Marcon Inc. in Allentown until retiring in 1990. While working, he became a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 65 years. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran serving as Corporal in WWII and Sergeant in the Korean Conflict. He was honored by General James E. Cartwright, USMC for being a member of the VMSB-33 Marine Scout Bombing Squadron at Cherry Point. He was a graduate of Nesquehoning High School, Class of 1943. He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, Nesquehoning and now a member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley. He was also a member the Nesquehoning Legion, the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 and the Nesquehoning Fire Company. John was proud to have donated over 12 gallons of blood during his lifetime.
Surviving are daughters Lisa Gazdick of Ambler, PA and Gail Faust and her husband Warren of North Carolina; son Gary of Nesquehoning; sisters Helen Mulligan of NJ, Margaret Kattner of Jim Thorpe, and Ella Gruber of Palmerton; grandchildren Brandee, Tim, Jamie, Casey, Ilya, and Ulyana; great grandchildren Ethan, Riley, Harper, Dylan, Madison, Ava, and Lawson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son John Joseph Gazdick III and sisters Mary Hadnagy and Ann Gazdick.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 07, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Joseph S. Blazosky F.H., 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning with the Rev. Allen Hoffa officiating. Military Interment will be held in S.S. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Call Thursday 6-8:00 P.M. and Friday 10-11:00 A.M in the funeral home.
