Joseph Herbert, 93, of Coaldale, entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Weatherwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Weatherly. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Maxim and Anna (Lorchak) Herbert. He attended school in the Coaldale School District. Prior to graduation, he and other classmates enlisted in the Navy. He served 27 months on the USS Chemung, an oil tanker. He worked at the #9 mine as a carpenter while attending McCann Business School at night. He then moved to Philadelphia where he started working for Wilson Sporting Company and then went on to work for the Corrpro Companies in West Chester, PA for 45 years until retiring. He then worked as a custodian for the Panther Valley School District. Joe loved being with people. He was always there to give a helping hand. He was a member of St. Mary Orthodox Church, Coaldale.
Surviving are a sister Mildred O’Shura of Sellersville, PA; brothers John Herbert of Camden, SC and Sal and Matesy (Spack) of Hammonton, NJ; nieces and nephews John (Sue) O’Shura and Elizabeth O’Shura of Sellersville, PA, Cheryl (Mike) Lyons of Camden, SC, Jack Herbert of Sun Praire, WI, Theodore Herbert of Meriden, CT, Susan O’Shura of Jim Thorpe, PA, Daniel Herbert of Hammonton, NJ, Thomas (Kimberly) Herbert of Sanatoga, PA; and many grand nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by sisters baby Olga, Helen, Mary, Sophie, and Olga Macalush; brother baby Dimitri; sister-in-law Elizabeth Herbert; brothers-in-law Benjamin Macalush and John O’Shura; nephews Leonard Macalush and David O’Shura; and a family friend George Barrette.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary Orthodox Church, 217 First St., Coaldale with the VRev. James Wereme officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Summit Hill. Call Friday 6-8:00 P.M. and Saturday morning 9-10:00 A.M. in the Church. Donations will be accepted in his name to the Church.
