Robert J. Hlavaty, 74, of Lansford, entered into eternal rest Monday, October 8, 2018 in his residence. He was the husband of Faye (Miller) Hlavaty. They celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary on October 11th of last year. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Joseph and Helen (Derkac) Hlavaty. He was employed as a machinist for 20 years in Bethlehem Steel and Mack Trucks and then worked for the Lansford-Coaldale Joint Water Authority until retiring in 2006. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War with the 1st Cavalry Infantry Division in AanKhen.  He was a member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, Summit Hill and was a member of the former St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Lansford where he was a member of the Centennial Committee. He was a graduate of Marian High School, Class of 1962. He was a member of the Lansford AMVETS. Robert loved tinkering with his cars on Patterson Street, listening to polkas, and walking his grand dogs Kielbsay, Shorty-Long, and Nattie. Robert was a great husband, dad, grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.             

 

Surviving along with his wife are sons Stephen and his wife Melissa of Winfield, PA and Mark and his wife Marianne of Akron, PA; sister MaryEllen Ogozalek of Lansford; a brother Ronald and his wife LaRae of Lehighton, PA; grandchildren William, Evan, and Zachary; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was also preceded in death by a sister Joanne Gustafson and a brother Joseph.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill with Rev. Allen Hoffa and Msgr. Thomas Derzack officiating. A Military Graveside Service will be held in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Summit Hill. Call Thursday 6 to 8:00 P.M. and Friday 9:30-10:30 A.M. in the Sverchek-Blazosky Funeral Home, 340 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, PA.
