Rose Kashlak (nee Mikitsh) died peacefully October 20 in Cape May, NJ with family by her side. She was 91. A former Philadelphia resident, she was the loving mother of three children – Jane (Paul Kerlinger) Roger and Rosemary Newman. Rose had five grandchildren – Adam and Jacob, Brian and Rebecca Newman and Stephanie Belcastro. Great-granddaughter Anna Rose was born this summer. Rose is also survived by a brother, John Mikitsh.
Rose is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Walter, who was born and raised in Nesquehoning. They lived in Philadelphia for most of their married life but made frequent visits to both the Nesquehoning and Berlinsville, Pa. areas. Born in New York City, Rose spent many summers at her great aunt’s farm in Berlinsville. She was a country girl at heart. Later, she delighted in introducing her own city kids to the joys of country life.
When her children left home, she enjoyed a brief but memorable career at Strawbridge and Clothier. She also was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Philadelphia. After her husband died, Rose moved to Cape May in 2010 and became an enthusiastic volunteer at Star of the Sea Catholic Church.Throughout her life she was a kind, giving woman who was always there for those who needed her.
Rose will be buried with her husband in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, Pa. Call for 10-11:00 A.M. in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, family ask that you make a contribution to the charity of your choice in memory of Rose.
