Adda Louise Stempa
1941 - 2023
Adda Louise (Yackanicz) Stempa, 82 years 6 months, a resident of Saint Lukes Miners Long Term Care Facility, Coaldale, PA; of Jim Thorpe, formerly of Nesquehoning, PA, was called into the loving arms of our creator on December 13, 2023. Adda became a lost soul after being afflicted by Alzheimer’s dementia and she gradually succumbed to the effects of the disease.
Adda L Yackanicz was born on June 12, 1941, in Nesquehoning, daughter of the late William and Ethel (Strohl) Yackanicz. Adda, the remaining matriarch of her family was predeceased by her siblings Barbara E. Pecha, Elva L. & Kenneth Smith, Robert J. & Fran F. (Conway) Yackanicz, Edward W. Yackanicz and infant William Yackanicz Jr. Adda is survived by her children Louise & Richard Frantz, Kristin & Jerry Dotter, and Robert Sr. & his companion Lauren Folk. She leaves behind several grandchildren, Kaitlyn A. Frantz & fiancée Taylor Parks, Sarah N. Frantz, Bodie A. Dotter, Shelby, Robert A. Jr., Andrew R., and Paige Stempa. She is survived by her brother-in-law Robert Pecha, sister-in-law Joan (Garret) Yackanicz as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.
Adda graduated from Nesquehoning High School in 1959. She worked at the Slatington lighting factory as an adult. It was at that job where she had a work accident and ended up having 4 and a half fingers on her one hand. She was a resilient woman despite her “shortcomings.” After marriage she became a stay-at-home mom raising her children. She was very supportive of her former husband’s desire to build a family business. She helped in many ways.
Adda was always the life of any party, she enjoyed being the hostess. She also loved to ride motorcycles. She had her favorite leather jacket and boots for riding. Adda was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and was deeply saddened at his passing. In her middle years she worked at McDonalds in Hometown, PA. Her favorite part of the job was interacting with the people at the drive thru. She had many great friendships throughout her life. She was very knowledgeable regarding family genealogy and will take many family ‘secrets’ with her.
Adda’s greatest happiness was raising her children and grandchildren. She particularly loved the holidays and would devote time to cooking and baking many delicious dishes to serve to her loved ones. She loved sharing recipes with others and baking new things. In her later years, Adda was very involved in Saint John the Baptist Orthodox church and enjoyed making pierogies with her church family. She’ll be fondly remembered by all for her laughter, coffee klatches, and sweet treats.
