1933 - 2024

Eugene J. Yacapsin, (Gabby) 91, of Nesquehoning, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2024, surrounded by his family at Greenwood Rehab Facility.  He was the son of the late John and Julia (nee Lazarick) Yacapsin.  Eugene is survived by his loving wife Frances P.(nee McDonald); they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last year. 

Gabby graduated from Nesquehoning High School in 1950 and attended Penn State University. He spent over 40 years as a mechanic and service manager for Oldsmobile, winning numerous service excellence awards.  Very active in his Catholic faith and community, Gabby was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Jim Thorpe.  He served as a lector and eucharistic minister in both Immaculate Conception and then St. Francis of Assisi Churches of Nesquehoning, and also was a loyal member of the church’s “kitchen crew.” He was elected to serve in the Allentown Diocese’s second synod in 2006.  Additionally, he served on the Nesquehoning Borough Council from 1970-1974. Gabby was an avid gardener and had an amazing floral display in his yard.

Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his children, his grandchildren, and his home.  He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Gabby is also survived by his daughter, Susan McGorry (Eugene) of Orefield, sons John (Maude) of East Berlin, and Eugene Jr. and partner Cynthia Mbu of Macungie.  He is also survived by granddaughters Aine, Colleen, Meghan, Shannon and Molly. He was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Yacapsin.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July, 17, at 11am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 180 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe, PA 18229 with Father Ronald Minner officiating.  Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10-11 am on Wednesday in the church.  Interment will follow at the St. Cyril Cemetery in Nesquehoning, PA.   Online expressions of sympathy may be entered at:  www.blazoskyfh.com.
