Helen Staivecki, 101, formerly of Lansford, entered into eternal rest Monday, June 18, 2018 in MapleShade Meadows Assisted Living Center, Nesquehoning. She was the wife of the late Andrew Staivecki who passed away on Valentine’s Day in 2002. They were happily married for 53 years. Her first husband, Michael Grunza, was killed in action on August 15, 1944 during the invasion of Southern France during World War II. Born in Lansford, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Julia (Julo) Zweisdak. She was employed as a sewing machine operator for the former Kiddie Klos ( Rosenau Brothers) in Lansford for 48 years until retiring in 1979. Helen was a member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Lansford.
Surviving is a son James Grunza and his wife Betty of Boca Raton, FL; sisters Margaret Dvorshock of Lansford and Irene Dare of Warminster, PA; two grandchildren Kristen Grunza George of Houston, TX and Kelly Lynn Grunza Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters Mary Seaman, Annie Pushkar, and Julia Durich and three brothers George, Michael, and John.
A Service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown. Donations will be accepted in her name to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 113 W. Bertsch St., Lansford, PA 18232. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sverchek-Blazosky Funeral Home.
