James Joseph Evans Sr.

1940 - 2026

James Joseph Evans Sr., 85, of Nesquehoning entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 16, 2026 in his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of the late Carolyn D. (Elias) Evans who passed away July 5, 2022.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Joseph M. and Mary A (Dowling) Evans.

He was employed as a warehouse worker for the former Durkee Spices in Bethlehem for many years.

He was a graduate of Nesquehoning High School Class of 1958 and a member of the football team.

He was a United States Army Reservist.

He was also a member of the St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, a member of the Nesquehoning Sokol Citizens Club, and the Nesquehoning Hose Company #1.

James enjoyed his daily walks throughout the town and loved doing anything he could for anyone.

Surviving are a daughter Lisa D. Evans and her wife Jennifer Klotz of Macungie; sons James J. Evans Jr. and his wife Deb of Nesquehoning, Michael S. Evans of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Matthew S. Evans of Nesquehoning; a brother Joseph Evans and his wife Karen of Summit Hill; grandchildren Bryanna and her wife Kelsey, Brianna and her husband Zach, Emily and her fiancé Shaun, Mackensey, and Riley; great grandchildren Colson, Myles, Hadley, and Eliana, and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by twin sisters Theresa Michalac and Margaret Matalone.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. in the Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, with Rev. Thomas Gyau officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in Sky View Memorial Park, Tamaqua. Call Saturday morning from 9:30- 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home.
