John “Herby” Herbert Jr., 88, formerly of Lansford, went into the arms of the Lord and Saviour, Thursday, August 16, 2018 in MapleShade Meadows, Nesquehoning. Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late John and Helen (Goyda) Herbert. He was a shop clerk for Mack Trucks Inc. in Allentown for 29 years until retiring in 1987. He was a graduate of the former Lansford High School, Class of 1947. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a life member of the Lansford AMVETS and a member of the Last Man’s Club. John loved playing sports in his youth. He was also an avid Penn State Nittany Lions Fan and a member of the Penn State Club of Carbon County. He was a member of St. John Russian Orthodox Church, Nesquehoning where he was a member of the ACRY. John was a caring and giving gentleman who dedicated his life to the Lord.
Surviving are a sister-in-law Eleanor Jean (Blaschak) Herbert of Ohio; nieces Ruth Ann Herbert and Claudia Pido and her husband Ernest both of Ohio; 1 great niece and 2 great nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother The Very Rev. Protopresbyter Paul Herbert.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in St. John Russian Orthodox Church, 9 E. Railroad St., Nesquehoning with Rev. Robert Teklinski officiating. Military interment will be held in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Hometown. Call Tuesday 10-11:00 A.M. in the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in his name to the church.
