1942 - 2021
John F. McHugh Jr., 79, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest Monday, July 26, 2021 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus. He was the husband of the late Rosemary B. “Rozi” (Puglia) McHugh who passed away September 6, 2014. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late John F. Sr. “Punk” and Anna (Jordan) McHugh. He proudly served the United States as a Mariner Corps Veteran. He was employed as a former police officer in Palmerton and also worked at Bethlehem Steel. John was involved in many volunteer organizations. He was a volunteer fireman, organized fishing contests in New Columbus, helped out with the Nesquehoning Knee High Football program, and was a scout leader with the American Legion. He was a member of the Nesquehoning American Legion, Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008, and the Lansford AMVETS. He was also a member of the Schuylkill/Carbon Marine Corps League and was a regular participant in all programs the Marine Corps League conducted. His greatest joy was to participate in TOYS for TOTS. John received much joy by bringing happiness to children and the underprivileged. He loved hunting, fishing, and was an encyclopedia of knowledge. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Surviving are his sons John F. III and his wife Rosemarie (Sosna) of Weatherly and James and his wife Carol (Horn) of Fleetwood; daughter Ann Compostella of New Columbus; sisters Maggie Dugan wife of Hugh and Ann Marie Mase wife of Thomas; sister in law Mary “Phyllis” Rochette of Jim Thorpe; a granddaughter Angelica Rose Piatt; step granddaughters Samantha and Megan; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning. Military Interment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Family will receive friends Tuesday morning 10-11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Online condolences at www.blazoskyfh.com.
