Kathryn Mary Chickilly
1923 - 2025
Kathryn M. Chickilly, 101, of Summit Hill, entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 23, 2025 in her residence. Born in Summit Hill, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Sr. and Irene (Sorber) Rickert. She was the wife of the late Robert Chickilly who passed away April 5, 1984. She worked as the secretary and treasurer for the Summit Hill Borough for 11 years until her retirement in 1985. She was a graduate of Summit Hill High School Class of 1941. She went on to proudly served her country as a United States Marine Corps Corporal as a parachute rigger during World War II. She was a member of the Summit Hill Methodist Church and the Summit Hill American Legion Post 316. She was well-known for making doll clothes and baby quilts. She also helped make quilts with the St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Summit Hill. Kathryn enjoyed watching old movies on TV but especially loved the precious time she spent with her family.
Surviving are daughters Lauren Chickilly with whom she was living in Summit Hill and Lynda Chickilly of Northampton; sisters Florence Kusko and husband Edward of Summit Hill, Doris Risavy and Ruthann Abbey both of Florida; a daughter-in-law Gail Chickilly of Nesquehoning; grandchildren Denise Kennedy, Amy Beth Chickilly and her companion Roosevelt Callirgos, and Christopher Janis; a great granddaughter Dahlia Janis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son Robert L. Chickilly, grandson Michael Janis, a sister Joan Brode, and bothers Norman, Eugene, Louis, and Gordon.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025 in the First Congregational Church, 123 East Ruddle St. Coaldale, PA with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Benack and Rev. Jeremy Benack officiating. Interment will be held in GAR Cemetery, Summit Hill at a later date. Call Friday morning 9:30-11 a.m. at the church with military honor at 10:45 a.m. under the direction of the Summit Hill American Legion.
