Margaret R. Dolena
1925 - 2021
Mrs. Margaret R. Dolena, 96, passed away peacefully at Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weathery, on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021.
Born in Palmerton, she was a daughter of the late Michael C. and Margaret M. (Lapos) York of Nesquehoning.
Following graduation from high school, Margaret worked in Washington, D.C., as a civilian employee for the Department of Navy. After returning to Nesquehoning, she married the late Metro Dolena, formerly of Coaldale, and enjoyed raising three children.
She was employed as a bookkeeper at Cassie’s Sportswear, Nesquehoning, for many years and also worked as a part-time clerk for the U.S. Postal Service.
Margaret was well-known for her baking and enjoyed making traditional holiday food for her family. She liked to garden, read and take long walks. Her favorite activity at Heritage Hill was playing bingo.
She was a former member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of the B.V.M. Parish, Nesquehoning, and was a current member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy M. Porambo of Jim Thorpe; a son, Christopher M. Dolena, and his wife, Susan, of Chesapeake, VA; a sister Cecilia, wife of Francis Krajcir of Allentown; two brothers, Thomas, and his wife, Mary, of State College, and Charles, and his wife, Maria, of Richmond, VA; a daughter-in-law, Victoria (Santore) Dolena of New Columbus; three grandchildren, David Conahan of New Columbus, Aaron Dolena, and his fiancée, Kallie Deski, of Berwick, and Arielle, wife of Taylor Schmidt of Coaldale; two great-grandchildren, Chase Conahan of Mechanicsburg and Ryker Schmidt of Coaldale; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Marie; a son, Michael A.; three brothers, Michael (Mickey), John (Jack) and Frank (Corky); and a sister, Anne Polivka.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, Shrine of St. Therese at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 15 E. Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning, with the Rev. James Ward officiating. Interment, SS. Cyril and Methodist Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Call 10-11 a.m. Friday in the Shrine. All visitors attending the service are required to wear masks and follow all CDC regulations.
