Nathaniel S. East Jr.

Nathaniel S. “Nic” East Jr., 82, entered into eternal rest Thursday, March 29, 2018 in The Summit at Blue Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton. He was the husband of Eileen B. (Fitzgerald) East. They celebrated their 29th Wedding Anniversary on August 1st of last year. Born in Holmes, PA he was the son of the late Nathaniel S. Sr. and Flora (Beadle) East. He was a self-employed ornamental metalsmith and stained glass artist and sculptor in Philadelphia and Jim Thorpe for more than 50 years. As owner proprietor of Iron Men, he designed and created ornamental iron work, railings and suspended stairs that still grace some of the best homes and business in Philadelphia. For many years, Nic designed and made both unique stained glass and inlaid wood pieces for his home on Flagstaff Road in Jim Thorpe and for private commissions. He also taught stained glass and lamp work beads in his studio.  

Nic was a graduate of John Bartram High School and of the University of Art in Philadelphia where he majored in Industrial and Graphic Design.  Since 1996,  Nic partnered with his wife, Eileen East, to operate Hill Home Forge Bed and Breakfast, Jim Thorpe. He was of the Quaker faith.

Surviving along with his wife are daughters Kim East of Tamaqua and Kristal East-Melvin and her husband Ted of San Antonio, TX; a stepson Gregory Charles Gilderman and his wife Jessica of New York; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Nic East, A Celebration of Life
Thursday, May 24th from 7 PM to 10 PM,  you are invited to an evening at Victor Stabin Studio (formerly Flow Restaurant), 268 W Broadway, Jim Thorpe, PA 18229 to celebrate the life of Jim Thorpe artist, Nic East, who passed away in late March this year. Please come and share the evening with us. At 6:30 there will be a memorial service for anyone who wants to share their thoughts about Nic. It will be conducted by all faiths minister Dr. Irene Goldberg. Donations will be accepted in his name to the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. Tamaqua, PA 18252.
