Norman D. Sherry
1944-2021
Norman D. Sherry, 76, a “Dutch Hiller” formally of Tamaqua, and residing in Barnesville, entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 07, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna (Gluse) Sherry. He was employed as a surveyor and assistant engineer for Edward J. Gaydos Inc., Orwigsburg and Schuylkill Product Inc., Cressona until retiring. He was a graduate of Tamaqua High School and then furthered his education and graduated from Penn State University with an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering.
Norman loved the outdoors. He would take walks at Tuscarora and Locust Lake State Parks. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting rabbits with his Bassett Hounds. He also hunted grouse with his double barrel shotgun. He reloaded his own bullets and was a lifetime member of the NRA.
He was a train buff, particularly locomotives, and built his own H.O. line layout in the Tamaqua area.
He enjoyed wood working and built bird houses and furniture which he gave to family and friends. He also liked to listen to classical music. Norman liked going to the Barnesville Firehouse and the Beacon Dinner. He was a long time supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Norman was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John Byzantine Catholic Church in Lansford. When talking to Norman, he could always manage a chuckle and a smile. Most of all he loved his family and friends.
We will miss him.
