Paul Joseph “Butch” Strauss, 80, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 3, 2023 in the Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA. He was the husband of the late JoAnn Carol Strauss and father of the late Jeffrey John Wade Strauss.  Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Paul and Bertilla (Stianche) Strauss. He was employed as a machinist for Bethlehem Steel until his retirement. He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving with the 42nd Field Maintenance Squadron at Loring Air Force Base, Maine . He was a member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley. He attended Marian High School until his senior year and then graduated from Scranton Catholic High School. He was a member of the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 and the Nesquehoning American Legion. Butch was passionate about daily and even hourly prayers and meditations. He adored the beauty of nature and feeding all the animals, savored music and listening to the radio during his car rides, and most importantly, loved spending time with his family, friends, and caretakers. Although battling with service related mental health conditions, Paul was an amazing father, true warrior, and a one of a kind legend. He was never shy about giving you advice in his own way, along with a PBR in one hand and a Lucky Strike or Camel in the other.  

Surviving are sons Dr. Joseph E. Strauss, Captain US Navy and his wife Elaine of Cumberland-Foreside, Maine and Stephen P. Strauss and his wife Jennifer of Lehighton, PA; a sister Barbara Van Benthysen of Milford, NJ; brothers Robert Strauss and his wife Sheree of Nesquehoning and Michael Strauss and his wife Janet of Piscataway, NJ; Grandchildren Logan, Gabrielle, Amelia, Luke, Murray, Carter, Jaxson, and Nolan; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Shrine of St. Therese of Lisieux, 15 E. Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning, Pa with Rev. Robert George officiating. Interment will be held in Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua. Call Monday night 6-8:00 P.M. and Tuesday morning 10-10:30 A.M. in the Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E.
