Richard G. "Dick" McIntyre
1936 - 2022
Richard G. “Dick” McIntyre, 86, of Lansford, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, in the St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem Campus. He was the companion of Elizabeth “Betty” Lopata for 34 years.
He was a math teacher for the Panther Valley School District until retiring in 1993.
Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late George and Grace (Boyd) McIntyre.
He was a 1953 graduate of Coaldale High School Class of 1953. He also attended many colleges, including Penn State University, Millersville University, Hope College, MI, graduate of the University of Scranton, from where he graduated, and post graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where he did post-graduate work.
He was a Panther Valley basketball announcer, timekeeper and scorebook keeper for over 40 years. He was also a timekeeper and announcer for the District 11 AA wrestling tournament.
Dick was a Panther Valley head golf coach, an assistant baseball coach and a PIAA softball official.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan, played darts, but, most of all, enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving are three sons, one of which is Rory McIntyre of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Margaret, wife of Daniel Gerber of Coaldale, and Janet, wife of Rolland Marshall of Tamaqua; a brother George, and his wife, Maryann, of Lansford; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Fern “Toots” Gilbert.
Service: Private interment, Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.
